Kamal Talay – Lotus Pond

Kamal Talay - Lotus Pond

About This Project

‘Kamal talay’ – ‘The Lotus Pond’ is a classical painting of the Pichwai art style. Originating in Nathdwara, Rajasthan, India Pichwai literally means ‘backdrop’, as it was originally used to paint backdrop fabrics for the famous Sri Nathaji temple Deity, as well as depicting various pastimes of Lord Krishna for devotees’ homes. The lotus pond backdrop was especially used for the Deity during the rainy season, and the pink lotuses were meant to remind Lord Krishna of His most beloved Radharani. I learned the process of painting Kamal Talay following Pichwai masterclass by master artist Jayesh Sharma at Memeraki.com.
